Daily watering is mandatory for the new Sod.
Rain is often not enough for daily watering. Only a precipitation of more than 15mm is enough.
A minimum of 30 to 40 minutes per zone when an irrigation system is present.
For manual watering, water for 40 minutes (per section)
Watering is mandatory until October or till temperatures hit 10⁰C or lower
For a sod installed in autumn, watering is mandatory for the next season until the end of August.
To check if the lawn is watered enough, lift a corner of the lawn; if the soil is soaked, it’s perfect. Otherwise continue watering this area.
Often below the trees, it is necessary to water longer (the trees drink this water too)
Watering in the morning before the sun is better, not to have a problem with fungus or mold.
2-3 weeks after the installation of the new sod, you must cut the grass to a height of 3.5 inches (highest height of the mower). After fist cut, you can reduce to 2.5 inches. In the fall and spring (temperature below 20⁰C), you can reduce the height to 2 inches.
Always remove dead leaves from the fall or shred them.
For the following seasons, a program of fertilization and control of grubs is mandatory.
With a lawn service, there would be a better chance of having a beautiful lawn and a protect investment.
